LSSB Music Director - Mr. Bob Bryant

Bob Bryant is married to Felice, his supportive and understanding wife of over 50 years! They have three married children and seven (7) active and beautiful grandchildren!

Mr. Bryant retired from Katy ISD in the fall of 2015 after a career in Texas public school education spanning over forty-one (41) years. His most recent position was serving as Executive Director of Fine Arts in Katy ISD for over fifteen years. Prior to this position he served as Director of Bands and Fine Arts Dept. Chair at Katy HS, Katy TX, Director of Bands at Lamesa HS, Lamesa, TX and Sudan (gr.4-12), Sudan,TX.

Throughout his 26-year public school band tenure, bands under Mr. Bryant’s direction earned numerous Texas UIL Sweepstakes Awards, as well as earning Superior and Best of Class Awards in music festivals across the country.

In 2007, Mr. Bryant became the Music Director of the Lone Star Symphonic Band (LSSB). The LSSB was selected as the sole recipient of “The Sudler Silver Scroll Award” in 2013, a designation of being an outstanding community band, by The John Philip Sousa Foundation. By invitation, the Lone Star Symphonic Band performed at the 2016 Texas Bandmasters Association clinic and conference held in San Antonio, Texas.

Among his many distinctions, are the following: named “Outstanding Music Educator” by Texas Tech University (2006); named “Texas Music Administrator of the Year” (2007-08) by the Texas Music Administrators Conference (TMAC); awarded the “Jacob L. and Sophia Meyer Farb School Bell Award for Lifetime Achievement in Music Education” (2015) by the Houston Symphony; recipient of the “Lifetime Administrator Award” (2015) from the Texas Bandmasters Association. Mr. Bryant was inducted into the State of Texas Bandmaster Hall of Fame in 2018.

Bob and Felice were honored for “Remarkable Achievement” by the Texas Tech University School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and served as keynote speakers during their “Celebrate Success” event in August 2016.

In the fall of 2017, the fortieth (40th ) elementary school in Katy ISD opened its doors, designated as “Robert and Felice Bryant Elementary School” by the Katy ISD Board of Trustees. Bob and Felice lay all honors and recognitions at the feet of their LORD, with all praise offered to HIM.

Bob earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX where he studied with Mr. Dean Killion. He received his Master of Music Education also from Texas Tech under the tutelage of Mr. James Sudduth.

Mr. Bryant has served as a member of the State Board for the Texas Music Educators Association, President and member of the Texas Music Administrators Conference. He continues to serve in helping bands and fine arts programs, as well as an adjudicator for UIL band competitions and various music festivals throughout the state.

Mr. Bryant is a member of TBA, TMEA, TMAA, Phi Beta Mu – Alpha Chapter, and The GRAMMY Foundation Education Committee.
